Fast start for OCC's Deleone

After taking a back seat most of the time to All-American Shaun Moehler last year as a freshman, Orange Coast LB Dean Deleone (6-3, 245) has become the leader of the Pirate defense. With his team off to a 4-1 start Deleone has continued to get noticed by programs from across the country and he updated recently on things...

"Things are off to a good start, but it was frustrating losing to Fullerton last weekend," Deleone told "We just have to keep working hard and playing like we can and I think we could end up having a really great season."

So far this season, Deleone leads the Pirates with 41 tackles, eight tackles-for-loss, six sacks and a forced fumble.

"It's been fun because I'm able to move around a little and pick my spots," Deleone said. "I get to attack and be aggressive and that's sorta my game and that's why I'm able to be successful."

On the recruiting front, Deleone is still waiting for that elusive first offer, but one might be on the way.

"I've been in contact on the phone with Kansas State, California, Boise State, Duke and Houston," Deleone noted. "Houston, Duke and Boise State said they've been at my games recently, so they seem pretty interested, but right now, that's it.

"I'm getting contacted by a lot of schools, but those are the main ones I'm talking to."

Deleone said he'd like to schedule a visit to one of the schools interested in him, but at this point he's more worried about his season than recruiting.

"I'll let (recruiting) take care of itself," Deleone said. "My team and my season and winning as many games as possible and seeing how far we can go this year, that's really what is more important to me right now."

Deleone will graduate in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
