Forgy makes waves off the edge

One of the top JUCO edge rushers in the country right now is Ellsworth DE Joe Forgy (6-4, 245) and he's having a fantastic season so far for the Panthers. caught up with the athletic pass-rusher recently and he updated us on things including which schools have let it be known they have him in their sights.

Forgy prepped at nearby Iowa Falls High School and was a full-qualifier, but he wasn't recruited much so he decided to head to the school that he knew best.

"Ellsworth is pretty much my hometown school," Forgy told "I had some friends that were there and since I wasn't really recruited at all, I just decided to come here because I really liked the coaches and the program they have here."

As a freshman in 2007, Forgy played linebacker for the first four games, but injuries to the defensive ends necessitated a move there and he ended up finishing with over 50 tackles and nine sacks on the season while receiving Honorable Mention All-Conference honors for his efforts.

So far this year, it's been more of the same for Forgy as he's posted 10 sacks and 30 tackles on a team that is currently 6-2 on the season.

"I feel very comfortable with my hand on the ground, but I just want to play," Forgy said. "If a school wanted me to play linebacker, I could do that, but I'm at my best with my hand on the ground rushing the quarterback."

On the recruiting front, Forgy is no longer a forgotten player to D-1 schools. Programs and coaching staffs from across the country have talked to his coaches and let it be known they definitely have liked what they've seen so far.

"North Carolina State, Purdue, Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska and Northern Illinois are the main D-1 schools talking to me," Forgy said. "I don't have any offers yet, but I'm patient so I can wait to show what I can do and let them make their decision."

Forgy is on pace to sign with a school in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
