Deleone gets offer from Pac 10 school

One of the more dynamic pass-rushers at the JUCO level this year was Orange Coast DE/LB Dean Deleone (6-3, 250) and he's parlayed his outstanding sophomore season into an offer from a Pac 10 school. JCFootball.com caught up with the gifted defender recently and he updated us on things including how someone his size ended up posting a 97-yard kickoff return...

Even though Deleone tips the scales at 250 pounds, he still runs in the 4.55 range and he said he asked to be put back on the return team and the coaches ceded to his request.

"I was actually just joking around with them and I said I should get a chance to return kicks," Deleone said with a chuckle. "They put me back there and I just took it and made a move and I was able to outrun everyone to the endzone. I think I was more surprised than anyone."

Deleone finished the season with 78 tackles, 9.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles-for-loss and recently he got offered by a team looking for someone to replace one of their departing senior starters at defensive end.

Oregon called me a couple of weeks ago and offered me," Deleone said. "I was really excited because they were my first D-1 offer and it's something I've been waiting for and working hard to get.

"Now that my season is over I can get a visit set up and that will probably be pretty soon. They said they like the way I rush the quarterback and I think I play a lot like Nick Reed and he's leaving so I could just go in there and have a chance to replace him."

Deleone also has an offer from Portland State and he had been talking to BYU before the Oregon offer came in.

"I just mailed my highlight tape out to some schools that I'm interested in right now, but I'm just going to wait and see what they have to say before I say much about them," Deleone said. "I'll sign in December, so I need to set up my visits soon."

Wherever Deleone ends up he'll have three years to play two once he steps on the field.
