Austin continues to shine for the Mounties

When you're part of one of the top JC programs in the country, it can be hard to stand out, but that's exactly what Mt. San Antonio WR Matt Austin (6-3, 200) has done. He's a playmaker for the Mounties and he's helped lead them to a 9-1 record. Schools from across the country have noticed and he's already hauled in three offers and more could be on the way very soon...

Austin had a great freshman season for Mt. San Antonio in 2007, posting 69 receptions for 985 yards and nine touchdowns while playing opposite Aiona Key who signed with Utah.

This year he's sharing the spotlight with Cal bounce-back Jesse Canada but he's still managed to post huge numbers again -- 53 receptions for 830 yards and 10 touchdowns.

"I've got good speed (4.6), but honestly it's about my quickness and my size and getting out of my breaks quickly," Austin said. "I've really worked hard on my strength and my route-running so I can be the best I can be."

Austin already has three offers under his belt and he's hopeful that more could be on the way.

"Nevada, Kansas State and Akron have all offered me," Austin said. "As far as the other schools, the ones recruiting me the hardest are Arizona, Oregon State and Bowling Green.

"I haven't set up any visits yet because we're going to be in the playoffs, but as soon as our season is over, then I'll get some set up real quick after that."

Austin will be able to sign with a school in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
