Butte Wins North - Other Scores from 11/22

Butte, Modesto, and Shasta won Northern California Football Association Division titles in bowl games Saturday. Butte (11-0), a 24-21 victor at Reedley in the State Center Bowl, advances to the California Community College Athletic Association championship game at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa on Dec. 13 (5 p.m.) as North Division Champion.

Host Modesto JC won the NCFA Central Division title by defeating Mid-Empire champion Sacramento CC (5-6), 31-6, in the Graffiti Bowl.    Golden Gate champ Modesto finished 8-3. 

Shasta (9-2) spoiled a perfect season for Coast Conference champion Monterey Peninsula College and ended the nation’s longest JC/CC win streak at 13 games with an exciting 33-31 last minute victory in the Bulldog Bowl at College of San Mateo to earn the NCFA South Division crown. 

Bay Valley Conference champion Shasta came back from a 24-6 third quarter deficit to score four touchdowns in the final 20 minutes, including an 8-yard pass from William Camy to Blake Arrowsmith with 34 seconds left for the win.  MPC finished 10-1. 

In other bowl games Saturday afternoon:

--Host Foothill (8-3) defeated Fresno City College (6-5), 42-36, in overtime in the Silicon Valley Bowl in Los Altos Hills;
--Host Laney (8-3) won the Eagle Bowl over Feather Riv er (6-5), 48-35.
--Santa Rosa JC (8-3) took a 21-0 halftime lead and then held off host Sierra (9-2), 28-20, before a sellout crowd at the Premier West Bank Bowl in Rocklin.

There is only one bowl gain remaining in Northern California this season.  San Joaquin Delta (7-3) will play at City College of San Francisco (7-3) in the San Francisco Community College Hawaiian Punch Bowl on Dec. 6 at 1 p.m.
