New interest in Cerritos' Fischer

Cerritos enjoyed a solid season under the leadership of QB Jeff Fischer (6-0, 195) and recently a Mountain West program started to show quite a bit of interest in the multi-talented Falcons signal-caller. JCFootball.com caught up with Fischer recently and he talked about his big sophomore season as well as where things stand on the recruiting front...

Fischer enjoyed a standout career at Lakewood High School which resides in one of the toughest high school football conferences in the country. However his productivity didn't result in much recruiting interest from the big schools so he headed to Cerritos to try and change his fortunes.

After only seeing spot duty as a freshman, Fischer lit up the So Cal JC ranks with a 63.9% completion percentage, almost 2,100 yards, 23 touchdowns and only five interceptions while leading Cerritos to a 7-3 record including a thrilling three overtime upset of previously undefeated Mt. San Antonio.

"Oh that was definitely the highlight of the season for me," Fischer said. "With how exciting the game was and the fact that we beat a great team like Mt. SAC, that was just a lot of fun.

"My accuracy is a key for me. I do my best not to make mistakes and not to do too much, I just let the game flow to me, so I don't push too hard and that's why I'm able to keep from making the big mistakes."

Colorado State liked what they saw so much on tape they had to come see Fischer live and up close.

"I worked out for them last week," Fischer said. "They seemed to like me a lot and what I did, so now it's just sort of the waiting game with them and the other schools recruiting me."

Fischer will be able to sign this month and he'll have three years to play two once he steps on campus.
