Matthews will be in SEC country this weekend

A player whose recruiting momentum is just starting to peak is L.A. Harbor WR Chris Matthews (6-5, 205) and he'll be at an SEC program this weekend for a visit and he's considering several other new offers and official visit requests over the next couple few weeks.

"I was at Akron last weekend and I had a lot of fun there," Matthews told JCFootball.com on Thursday night. "I'm going to Kentucky this weekend and I'm really looking forward to that."

The Wildcat offer is a relatively recent development for Matthews who has seen offers from Oregon, Louisville, Memphis and New Mexico as well.

"Kentucky is really intriguing to me actually," Matthews said when asked if a California kid could see himself in Lexington. "They have a great program going there and they always seem to produce quarterbacks and receivers so I know if I go in there, they will have a guy back there who can get me the ball and that's really important to a wide receiver."

Matthews noted that Marshall is likely to be the next school to get a visit from the talented wideout who used his impressive size and speed (4.5) to post over 80 receptions, 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Seahawks.

"Marshall has been on me for a while and they have been real consistent in recruiting me," Matthews said. "They have been recruiting me the hardest for the longest, so I want to check them out and I could possibly do that next weekend, I'm not sure though."

Matthews has maintained since we started talking to him this past spring that he plans to sign in December, but he may delay that so he can check out the other schools pursuing him and sign in February.

"I'm not sure on that yet, we'll see what happens," Matthews said.

Wherever he ends up, Matthews will have three years to play two the moment he steps on campus.
