Baldwin still waiting for first D-1 offer

A big, physical wide receiver still on the open market looking for a home is Harper's John Baldwin (6-4, 200) and things are beginning to heat up on the recruiting front. caught up with Baldwin recently and he updated us on his three D-1AA offers and what D-1 schools are starting to show him some interest...

Baldwin prepped at Laverne Central High School in Indianapolis and he enjoyed an outstanding career there, but he qualified late so he decided to head to Harper in order to continue his career.

"My coach in high school was a Harper alum, so he knew a lot about the program and he introduced me to (Dragan) Teonic," Baldwin told "It's been a great decision to come here. I've really enjoyed my time and I think I've learned a lot."

This past season Baldwin followed up a solid freshman campaign with a 60 catch, 1000 yard, 10 touchdown effort.

"I can use my speed (4.5) to get open deep or use my body to shield DBs," Baldwin said. "I've learned a lot about using my size and how to run routes, so I can do whatever a team needs me to do."

When it comes to recruiting, Baldwin is still waiting on that first D-1 offer, but he's got three D-1AA offers under his belt.

"I have offers from Mississippi Valley State, Duquesne and Jackson State right now," Baldwin said. "Bowling Green came and met with me during the season and they wanted me to come out on a visit and Ball State and Central Michigan are both schools that have been coming on the past couple of weeks.

"I'm open to everyone, so location isn't that big of a deal for me. I just want a chance to play."

Baldwin will be able to sign this week with a school, but he said he may wait to see what else comes up and delay signing until February.

Wherever he ends up Baldwin will have three years to play two once he steps on campus.
