Blinn: Who's signed, who's available?

Typically, Blinn College produces an over-abundance of talented prospects and this year is no different. Here's a look at where several Buccaneer players signed, where some are committed to and where a few more are looking...

QB Terrance Cain Signed with Utah after being named to the NJCAA First Team All-American team. Completed over 68% of his passes for 3,138 yards, 29 touchdowns with only 11 interceptions. Will have three years to play two and has already enrolled at Utah.

OL Brad Paul Signed with Memphis and will likely end up playing inside for the Tigers, but he's versatile enough to play outside at a tackle position as well.

WR Justin Rideau Signed with Western Illinois. Has good size and decent speed. Was the fourth receiver in the Blinn attack and posted 16 receptions for 254 yards and one touchdown.

DT Sean Warren Signed with Stephen F. Austin. One-gap, nose tackle has good quickness and can anchor well inside. Posted 28 tackles, 5.5 tackles-for-loss, five sacks and one fumble recovery for the Bucs in 2008. Had offers from North Texas and UAB, but chose SFA mainly because of its location.

DT Jeff Younker Signed with Adams State College.

FB Tony Malfar – Signed with Quachita Baptist University.

OL Brian Krauskopf Signed with South Alabama. Most likely a guard at the next level. Good drive blocker who has enough athleticism to get to the next level on defenders.

P Mark Sprague Signed with Abilene Christian. Averaged 39.8 yards per punt and downed over 20% of his punts inside the 20.

S Byron Landor – Committed to Baylor. Landor has outstanding size and great range to make plays out wide. He's a big hitter and a great tackler, leading Blinn in tackles with 102 while also posting two interceptions. Will sign in February with three years to play two.

DE Travis Stephens Committed to Kansas. The physically gifted pass-rusher had seven sacks, 26 tackles and 16.5 tackles-for-loss in 2008. Has good size (6-3, 250) and speed (4.7) and he knows how to get pressure on the quarterback. Will have two to play two once he arrives in Lawrence.

DE/LB Jarred Price Committed to California. Committed to Cal during the summer and then reneged before re-committing to the Golden Bears on his visit to Berkley in November. Price is an outstanding pass-rusher, posting 17.5 sacks in 2008 as a defensive end, but he can also play some outside linebacker as well.

LB Vernon Brooks Committed to Abilene Christian. Posted 44 tackles, 10.5 tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks and one fumble recovery in 2008.

WR Travis Cobb Committed to Arizona. Standout wide receiver originally committed to Utah, but decided he wanted to play in the Pac 10 and committed on his visit to Arizona in November. Finished 2008 with 36 receptions for 508 yards and four touchdowns.

LB C.J. Parish Committed to Arizona. Posted 34 tackles, 10.5 tackles-for-loss and one sack in 2008.

TE Prizell Brown Committed to North Carolina. Decided to become a Tar Heel in November after his visit to Chapel Hill. Had nine receptions for 70 yards and two touchdowns as a sophomore in 2008. Will have three years to play two once he steps on campus.

OL Marquise Franklin – Big offensive lineman can play inside or outside, but is best suited as a right tackle. Committed to Baylor over the weekend, but was looking at offers from Arkansas, Kansas, Troy and LSU as well.

WR Justin Jordan Talented receiver, has big-play abilities and reminds some of Steve Smith because of his size and quickness. Led the Buccaneers in receptions with 55, yards with 715 and was second on the team in touchdowns with seven. Is a soft-verbal to UAB, but also has offers from Cal, Arizona, Kansas State, Kentucky, Utah and Southern Mississippi among others.

LB Davion Marshall Posted 58 tackles, 6.5 tackles-for-loss and two sacks. Texas Southern and Lamar appear to be the top two for Marshall.

LB Prentice Joseph Posted 53.5 tackles and one fumble recovery in 2008. Texas Southern, Praireview A&M and Lamar are the three schools Joseph is looking at.
