Bellamy talks recruiting

Heading into the 2008 season, Butte WR Josh Bellamy (6-2, 197) was one of the top JUCO wideouts on many teams' lists. He's still waiting to make his decision and he updated JCFootball.com about his visit to Washington State last weekend and his timeline for making a decision.

"Washington State was really cool," Bellamy told JCFootball.com on Wednesday. "I enjoyed myself there. James Montgomery, who transferred there from Cal, he was my host and he and I just chilled and got to know each other and he showed me around.

"It's a small town, but it was a lot of fun there. Everything is sorta centered around the school and that's really cool because you feel real welcomed.

"I had a good meeting with coach (Paul) Wulff and coach (Mike) Levenseller, but I didn't commit to them."

Joining Bellamy on his visit was Butte teammate Brandon Rankin, a defensive end who racked up over 20 sacks in 2008.

"Oh yeah, Brandon had a lot of fun too," Bellamy said. "He's not committing until signing day and I won't commit until then either.

"We'll call the coaches and let them know and then on signing day we'll sign our letters."

Bellamy is a gifted athlete who has good size and outstanding speed (4.4) and over the past two seasons he's been one of the top JUCO receivers in California posting a combined 88 receptions, for 1,436 and 19 touchdowns in that time frame.

"I use my speed and quickness to get separation," Bellamy said. "I also return kicks, so I like having the ball in my hands and making plays."

Bellamy is entertaining offers from Iowa State, Arizona, Boise State, Idaho, Marshall and South Florida in addition to the offer from the Cougars.

We'll have more from Bellamy on signing day, when he's ready to make his final decision.
