Canyons DE is one of the best in the country

He was one of the top JUCO defensive ends as a freshman in 2008 and College of the Canyons DE Marquis Jackson (6-4, 235) said he promises even more this fall. The talented pass-rusher already has several programs looking at him and he said he's open to anyone who wants to recruit him at this point...

Jackson was a standout at Birmingham High School in Van Nuys, California, but he was unable to qualify.

"Canyons was the best place for me after I didn't qualify," Jackson told JCFootball.com recently. "They are real close to where I grew up and the coaches here really showed me they wanted me to come in and what I could do for them in the defense."

As a freshman last fall, Jackson was outstanding off the edge for the Cougars posting 60 tackles, 10.5 sacks and 18.5 tackles-for-loss while earning All-Conference, All-State and State Defensive Player of the Year honors.

"I'm a run-stopper in my opinion," Jackson said. "I can get after the quarterback, but I feel I'm better at holding the edge and playing the run strong. I sorta feed off of that and just let my sacks come.

"They played me at both end spots last year. I feel better on the strongside because I like being over the tight end, but I can play both."

On the recruiting front Jackson is already hearing from three BCS programs and more could be on the way.

"I'm getting stuff from Arizona State, UCLA and Minnesota right now," Jackson said. "I'm open to everyone that wants to recruit me. I am going to take all my visits and take my time before I decide, so anyone that wants to recruit me has a chance."

Jackson is on pace to graduate in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
