Pela still on pace to finish up this summer

Foothill DT Joape Pela (6-2, 300) is a player working hard to finish up his classes this summer. He's been hitting the books as well as hard this spring and he said he should be done sometime in July. Here's the latest on the talented interior defensive lineman and what schools are recruiting him the most...

"San Jose State, Hawaii, Utah and Utah State are all after me," Pela said. "None of them have offered me yet, but they all got my film and all of them are looking to bring me in this summer to play for them this fall."

Pela is an explosive defensive tackle prospect, posting 45 tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss and five sacks in his only year at Foothill.

"I can do whatever a team needs me to do," Pela said late last month. "I can play the three-technique or one-technique or even play end because I did that at Foothill. I just want to play, so it doesn't matter to me."

What has mattered to Pela recently is his schoolwork, specifically the three classes he needs to finish in order to transfer this summer.

"I'm taking two of them right now and I'm doing good in them," Pela said. "Then I have one to take this summer which starts in early June I think."

Should he get the necessary courses finished, Pela could sign with with a program this summer with four years to play three.
