Could Panelli be headed to the Big East?

After having an outstanding freshman season, Modesto QB Greg Panelli (6-3, 230) has two schools looking to bring him into the fold this fall. JCFootball.com caught up with the gun-slinger from northern California and he talked about things including which Big East school may be close to extending an offer this week and which WAC school is eyeing him as well...

Panelli had an outstanding freshman season for the Pirates in 2008, completing 58% of his passes for 2,200 yards, 26 touchdowns and nine touchdowns, while leading Modesto to a 8-3 record.

He also stepped up big in their Graffiti Bowl win, going 23 of 28 for 303 yards and three touchdowns.

"I'm a pocket passer, but I can move around too," Panelli told JCFootball.com on Sunday afternoon. "I like to use my feet to buy time and then make plays by moving around and throwing on the run. I'm pretty accurate doing that so it's something I feel real comfortable with."

Panelli is available to leave right now and two programs have said they like what they've seen from him.

"Cincinnati is recruiting me and I should know this week if they are going to offer me," Panelli said. "I've been talking to the coaches there and they said this week I should know whether or not they will give me an offer.

"I sent them my transcripts and film and now it's just about being patient and waiting for them to make their decision.

"San Jose State is also recruiting me too and if the Cincinnati thing doesn't work out they could also offer me. Right now it's kinda frustrating being in waiting mode."

Should Panelli get an offer this spring, he will leave this summer and enroll at his new school with four years to play three wherever he ends up.

We will continue to keep track of this developing story and update things as soon as news breaks.
