Putting in the time helps Roberts get ahead

One of the top JUCO wideouts from the 2008 season is still waiting to hear from D-1 schools, but Mendocino WR Ricky Roberts (5-10, 178) isn't frustrated. He's been hard at work this spring, perfecting his trade and he's hoping that hard work pays off with more attention from four year programs. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented receiver and he updated us on all that has been going on…

Roberts prepped at Vallejo High School in California, but he only played his freshman and senior seasons and he wasn't really recruited after he finished his prep career, so heading to Mendocino made the most sense to him.

"The coaches were great and I had a great quarterback (Jacob Laudenslayer) throwing to me," Roberts told JCFootball.com. "It was fun having him for my first season because we had a good connection and that helped me have a big season and I got All-Conference because of it."

In 2008, Roberts had an outstanding season posting 60 receptions for 752 yards and 11 touchdowns and he's hoping for a bigger season in 2009.

"I play outside mainly, but I can play all over the place," Roberts said. "You can put me in motion or in the slot. Just get me the ball in space and I can use my quickness to get around guys and I have good football speed that surprises people."

On May 9th, Roberts was one of the top performers at the Nor Cal JCFootball.com combine held at Chabot College, posting a 4.51 forty time, a 4.43 short shuttle and a 28-inch vertical.

As far as recruiting is concerned, Roberts has yet to get his tape out to schools, but he's hoping to do that soon and he said he's open to anyone that wants to recruit him.

He expects to finish his two-year degree in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
