Green is just looking for an opportunity

Diablo Valley RB Lavonte Green (5-8, 198) redshirted in 2008, so he's still waiting to hear from four-year schools who are unaware of his status, but that didn't stop him from being one of the top performers at the Nor Cal combine. We spoke with Green recently and he updated us on things including what he does best on the football field.

Green prepped at Vallejo High School in California and was recruited pretty hard by Idaho after he finished a solid prep career.

"Coach (Dennis) Erickson was recruiting me for them, but he got the job at Arizona State so they sorta lost track of me," Green told recently. "After that I was pretty much set on going JC since they were the only school really recruiting me and Diablo Valley was the best fit because the coaches here are really good and they have a good program here."

As a freshman in 2007, Green posted 150 yards and two touchdowns in a reserve role. Last year he sat out the season while getting his grades in order and now he's set to take the JUCO ranks by storm by any means necessary.

"I'll do whatever it takes," Green said. "I'll run inside or outside. I'll be a scatback or a power back. It doesn't matter to me, I just want to play and help us win."

Recruiting hasn't really begun for Green yet because he's still working to get his highlight tape out, but he said he's open to anyone who wants to offer him.

"I don't care where I go, I just want the chance to play at the next level," Green said. "I know I have the talent to do it, but I just need to show people what I can do."

At the Nor Cal combine held on May 9th at Chabot College, Green was one of the top individual performers, posting a 4.41 forty time, a 4.56 short shuttle, a 34-inch vertical and 17 reps of 225 pounds on the bench.

Green is on pace to graduate in December and he'll have two years to play two wherever he ends up.
