Early interest heats up for Wiley

Grossmont might have the best pair of tackle prospects in the state of California this year and while Juan Bolanos is the physical presence on the right side, Charles Wiley (6-6, 310) is the athletic bookend that protects the blindside of the Griffin signal-callers and he's just now starting to see recruiting pick up. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented lineman and he updated us on things…

Wiley enjoyed a solid prep career at Fulton High School Knoxville, Tennessee. His family moved to California so he followed them out west and enrolled at College of the Sequoias, but a foot injury forced him to redshirt in 2007.

"After that, I decided to come down to Grossmont because my family moved to San Diego," Wiley told JCFootball.com. "I was thinking about transferring to Saddleback this summer, but I decided to stay at Grossmont and I'm happy I made that decision."

As a redshirt freshman for the Giffs, Wiley started all 10 games at left tackle and he said it was his athleticism that helped him succeed.

"I'm big and I have really quick feet for my size," Wiley said. "I think what sets me apart from most linemen is my athleticism. I have confidence in what I can do against anyone."

Proof of Wiley's athleticism is easy to see when he shows up on film. He posted a 5.1 forty time this spring while also benching 350 pounds and squatting 515.

Recruiting has just begun to pick up for Wiley and while he doesn't have any offers yet, he said some could be on the way sooner rather than later.

"Tennessee, Oregon and Kansas are all recruiting me pretty hard," Wiley said. "Actually Tennessee is real close to offering, but I wasn't able to meet with them when they were here and they want to watch me in person so it might be a while before they actually offer me."

Other schools who have also expressed interest in Wiley include California, Fresno State, UCLA and Kansas State.

Wiley is on pace to graduate in December and because he redshirted in 2007 he'll have two years to play two wherever he ends up.

We'll continue to keep track of Wiley's progress both on and off the field and update news as it happens.
