Hayes gets it done for Blinn

Blinn once again is loaded with talent and carrying the load on the ground this year will be RB Michael Hayes (5-9, 195) who is a speedster that can take it the distance almost anytime he gets his hands on the ball. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented runner recently and he noted while his size and speed make him an ideal fit in space, he loves to take it between the tackles as well...

Hayes prepped at East Bernard High School just south of Houston and after not qualifying he turned to Blinn to continue his football career.

"When I was looking around, Blinn was the place you had to be," Hayes told JCFootball.com recently. "I mean, they are always in the championship hunt, they have great coaches and great players and it was just the place for me to be."

As a freshman in 2008, Hayes was a multi-purpose threat posting over 750 yards on the ground, 300 as a receiver and 10 touchdowns. He said while his size and 4.3 speed make him an ideal spread running back, he likes running inside more.

"Honestly, running between the tackles is where my bread and butter are," Hayes said. "I know with my size and quickness, getting me in space is what people think is best and I can do that and be really successful, but I feel with my vision and quickness in and out of my cuts, that I can run well inside and we have big guys up front that pave the way for me to do that."

As far as recruiting is concerned, Hayes already has three offers and more schools could be getting close to extending full rides as well.

"Kansas State, Kansas and Southern Mississippi have all offered," Hayes said. "Oklahoma State, Cal, Utah, UAB and Louisiana-Monroe are recruiting me.

"Of that group, Cal is the one I talk to most often, but they all say they like me a lot and that I would fit great into their systems."

Hayes has made outstanding progress in the classroom and will finish up his AA degree in December with three years to play two wherever he ends up.
