Howell is looking for an opportunity

Navarro is loaded with talented players on both sides of the ball, but the leader of their potent offensive attack is QB Milton Howell (6-2, 190), a dual-threat athlete who can hurt defenses with his legs as well as his arm. After a solid freshman campaign in 2008, Howell said he's ready to show the world what he can do and he hopes that will be good enough to earn some D-1 offers...

Howell prepped at South Houston High School in Texas and was unable to qualify so very few schools showed him much interest.

"I just didn't have anyone looking at me back then," Howell told "Navarro was close and they have great coaches here and you know we have a lot of talented players, so that was a huge factor in where I decided to go."

As a freshman in 2008, Howell got seven starts posting 612 yards passsing, three touchdowns and two interceptions as well as 443 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

"I think I can pass it just as good as anyone, but I can run too," Howell said. "I like to be a dual-threat guy, using my legs when I have to, but I would rather get it to my receivers and let them make the plays."

Howell's speed (4.4) is what really sets him apart, but he noted that he is working hard to get stronger this offseason.

"My bench is up to 275 and I want to have that over 300 by the start of the season," Howell noted. "I'm in their five days a week working on that stuff, but I still want to keep my speed and flexibility, so that is still a focus for me too."

On the recruiting front, Howell hasn't heard much from schools yet regarding recruiting although Kansas talked to him during spring.

"I'm open to going anywhere and I feel I can play in any offense," Howell said. "I can be a pro-style or spread QB, I just need the chance to show what I can do and I'll do that this fall."

Howell has been hard at work in the classroom as well as in the weightroom and he will be able to sign with a school in December with three years to play two wherever he ends up.
