Goodman is a versatile DB for Blinn

As we've detailed over the past week or so, Blinn is loaded with talented players this year and DB Justin Goodman (5-10, 195) is their best, and most versatile player, in the secondary. caught up with the talented defensive back and he updated us on things including where he sees himself fitting in at the next level...

"I can play corner or safety, but I think I'm probably better at corner," Goodman told "I mean, I feel comfortable doing both and I think I can play both if a coach wanted me too, but I like playing corner, being up in the the receivers' face and physical."

Goodman prepped in the Houston area and was lightly recruited. He ended up not qualifying and he said Blinn was the best option when considering where he wanted to play his college football.

"They always have great teams and the coaches here really get you prepared for the next level," Goodman said. "I redshirted my first year (2007), but this past year I played corner for the first few games and then mostly safety, but some corner, for the rest of the season."

As redshirt freshman, Goodman managed to post 68 tackles from his various positions in the secondary.

"I had a good season, but I can do better," Goodman said. "I've been working on my quickness and recognition of routes so I can read things better. I'm putting in the work this summer."

That work has paid off with an offer from North Texas and other schools making it known they are very interested in the talented defensive back.

"When North Texas offered it was a huge relief," Goodman said. "I knew I would be able to play D-1 ball no matter what. Then schools like Kansas State, Utah, BYU, ULM, Tulsa and some other schools started to show me interest so I decided to wait a while and take some visits.

"I'd like to stay close to home if possibly, but as long as I feel comfortable with a school and a coaching staff, I can go anywhere to play ball."

Since Goodman redshirted in 2007, he will be able to sign in December and he'll have two years to play two wherever he ends up.
