Davis plans to re-sign with USF

The East Mississippi roster is loaded this year and one of their most sought-after prospects, DE/LB Claude Davis (6-3.5, 243) has already decided he plans to re-sign with the school that he committed to out of high school. JCFootball.com caught up with the gifted pass-rusher recently and he updated us on things including why he ended things so early...

Davis enjoyed an outstanding prep career at Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland, Florida and signed with South Florida after being courted by schools across the south.

"They were the school that wanted me the most and after I didn't qualify they placed me here at East Mississippi so I plan on re-signing with them," Davis told JCFootball.com recently. "I really like that it's close to home and they are a rising program, so I could be a part of helping them build this up."

Davis has outstanding athleticism to go with his ideal size, sporting a 36-inch vertical and a 4.6 forty time.

"I'm a speed, edge rusher," Davis said. "I play both sides in our defense, it just sorta depends on how the offense lines up.

"I usually play on the weakside or 'quick' side, but it really doesn't matter, I can play on either side."

As a freshman in 2008, Davis posted 93 tackles and eight sacks to go along with over 15 hurries and that has schools from across the country still showing him interest even though he's expressed his desire to re-sign with USF.

"Tennessee, Ole Miss, Florida State, Mississippi State and Arizona State have all shown me a lot of interest," Davis said. "I still plan to re-sign with South Florida, but if a school wants to step up and offer me, then I will definitely listen.

"It's all about making sure I go to the right program, that fits my personality and I feel I can do well at, both on the field and in the classroom."

Davis originally enrolled at Pearl River in 2007, but redshirted before moving over the East Mississippi and playing last fall. Therefore, he will finish up his two-year degree in December and he'll have two years to play two once he signs his letter-of-intent.
