Mt. SAC's Irvin is Tennessee-bound

When last we spoke with Mt. San Antonio LB B.J. Irvin (6-3.5, 230), he had just dominated in the one-on-one portion of the Combine held at Orange Coast College. Shortly thereafter, he got his first offer and took a visit to Knoxville, Tennessee and after seeing the Volunteer program up close, he decided "Rocky Top" was where he wanted to be...

"I committed to them back on May 23rd," Irvin told "I took an unofficial visit there and I met with the coaches and talked with the players and stuff and it was just what I was looking for so I committed to them."

Irvin was also seeing heavy interest from LSU, Alabama and USC and he said while he will listen to a school if they decide to step up with an offer, it's going to be pretty hard to beat Tennessee.

"My parents are all really excited," the Atlanta native said. "They went out and bought a bunch of Tennessee stuff and have it hanging up at the house, but I'm excited and they are so it's where I plan on going."

In a reserve role as a freshman in 2008, Irvin still managed to post 28 tackles, nine quarterback hurries, six tackles-for-loss and three forced fumbles.

"I run well for a guy my size," Irvin said. "(Saturday) they hand-timed me at a 4.37 at 230 pounds and I did 225 pounds 20 times on the bench press so I tested like I wanted to, now it's about going out and performing like I know I can."

Irvin will finish up his AA in May of 2010 and he'll have three years to play two following the season.
