Murphy ready for big sophomore season

It's been a long, slow recruiting process already for Santa Rosa DE Kyle Murphy (6-4, 260), but that hasn't deterred the talented defensive end from putting in the work this offseason to have a big sophomore season in 2009. caught up with the talented pass-rusher and he updated us on things including which schools have showed him the most interest of late...

"Right now California, Kansas State and Iowa State have all been the most aggressive in talking to me," Murphy told recently. "Sac State has offered me, so I do have an offer and Texas State is close to offering as well. Cal's defensive coordinator (Bob Gregory) and I have talked a few times and he said he like me a lot and what I could do, but right now it's all just talking."

As a freshman in 2007, Murphy notched 46 tackles, seven sacks and two forced fumbles while playing opposite Donnie Pritchett who ended up signing with Fresno State.

"We had a good thing going on defense last year," Murphy said back in March when first spoke to him. "We all were competitive with each other and if one guy made a play, the other guy wanted to as well.

"It definitely made us better."

Murphy was a full-qualifier out of high school so he can leave at any time, but his plan is to sign with a school in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
