Pela set to sign with Utah in August

JCFootball.com caught up with Foothill DT Joape Pela (6-2, 300) on Friday to find out his status and learned that he's finished up all of his classes and hopes to get his grades posted early so he can sign with Utah in the next two weeks. Read on to find out more...

"I actually just finished up (Thursday) afternoon," Pela told JCFootball.com. "I was taking an online course and it was supposed to go through August 10th, but I sped up and got ahead and finished early. I've been talking with the professor who was running it to see if I could get my grade posted early so I can go ahead and sign."

Pela committed to Utah last month and had two classes to finish and he said he's excited to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

"It's been a long process," Pela said. "I had a lot of work to do to finish this summer, but I got it done and I'm really excited to be so close to my dream of playing D-1 football."

Pela is an explosive defensive tackle prospect, posting 45 tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss and five sacks in his only year at Foothill.

"I can do whatever a team needs me to do," Pela said late last month. "I can play the three-technique or one-technique or even play end because I did that at Foothill. I just want to play, so it doesn't matter to me."

Pela will sign his letter-of-intent and report as soon as he's able to and he'll have four years to play three once he takes the field for the Utes.
