Jasmin Hopkins continues to show patience

He posted big numbers as a freshman in 2008 and he was named a JC Gridwire Preseason Second Team All-American, but Fort Scott RB Jasmin Hopkins (5-8, 180) is still waiting on that first official D-1 scholarship offer. After a week off, he's focused on Greyhounds' next opponent while also waiting for schools to pick up the pace on the recruiting front.

Jasmin prepped at East Gaston High School in North Carolina and was unable to qualify, so he headed to a prep school and then got in touch with the coaches at Fort Scott and saw they had a plan to get him moved on to the next level.

"Their plan was great and I could see where they were headed," Hopkins told JCFootball.com recently. "I'm real happy here, especially with how things have gone."

As a freshman in 2008, Hopkins slashed and cut his way to 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns while helping lead the Greyhounds to a Heart of Texas (H.O.T) Bowl win.

"This year we've got a real good team," Hopkins said. "We're off to a good start, but we have some real tough games ahead of us so we're basically just taking it a week at a time."

In two games this year Hopkins has 248 yards and four touchdowns while splitting time with another back.

"Me and Justin Woods have been splitting carries," Hopkins said. "It's cool, we're winning and it's working great for us."

Hopkins is still getting letters and schools have let it be known they have their eyes on him, but at this point he's still waiting on that ever-elusive first offer.

"I've been getting some looks, but nothing really official right now," Hopkins said. "During the summer Auburn, East Carolina, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Southern Miss, South Florida and LSU all were looking at me, but that's about it."

This weekend Fort Scott takes on Garden City.

We'll keep track of Hopkins' progress and update news as it happens.
