Clanton is a big time JUCO line prospect

City College of San Francisco is always loaded with talent and this year is no different. One of the top D-1 prospects on their roster is OT Ryan Clanton (6-6, 305) who was named a JC Gridwire Preseason First Team All-American and JCFootball.com caught up with him recently to get the scoop on his season as well as which schools have been showing him the most interest...

Clanton prepped at Bakersfield High School and said it was a friend who drew him up to the Bay Area.

"I was going to sign with Fresno State, but things just didn't work out for me to go there and my friend was already up here at City," Clanton told JCFootball.com recently.

Last season as a freshman, Clanton started games at both guard and tackle, but this season he'll be strictly at the "quick" guard position.

"I started out at guard, but then we had a tackle go down and they needed me to move over so I did that I think it went pretty well," Clanton said. "I enjoy playing either one. They're different though, but I feel like I can play both pretty well.

"I've always been a good pass-blocker, but my run-blocking has gotten a lot better so it's something I think I do equally well."

On the recruiting front, schools from all over have let him know that they like what he has to offer, but he's still waiting on that first D-1 offer.

"I have an offer from Texas State right now," Clanton said. "USC, Oregon, Syracuse, Arizona State, Kansas State, Fresno State, Nevada, Utah, San Diego State, Washington, Washington State, San Jose State, Auburn and Tennessee and a few other schools have all been talking to me.

"I've unofficially visited USC and Fresno State and I've been talking about setting up an official visit with Oregon on our bye week, but we haven't set up anything official yet.

"I want to take all my visits before I commit anywhere and I'll do that by the time December rolls around."

Clanton is on pace to finish is AA in December so he can sign mid-year and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
