Fort Scott's David is focused on the season

He had such a good freshman season, Fort Scott LB LaVonte David (6-2, 215) was named a JC Gridwire Preseason First Team All-American and he's lived up to that lofty status by getting off to a fast start so far this fall. caught up with the talented linebacker prospect and he updated us on things including why he's put recruiting on the back burner for the time being...

"I still just have the five offers I had before the season," David told "I wanted this to be a great season for me individually and for our team, so I'm not too worried about the offers or recruiting right now. I'm focused on helping my team however I can."

David's five offers were from Kansas, Kansas State, North Texas, Florida International and Tulsa and he's getting heavy interest from LSU, Utah, TCU, Florida State, South Florida and Clemson among others.

As a freshman in 2008, David led the Jayhawk Conference in tackles with 93 and also posted four sacks, one interception and four fumble recoveries and so far this season he's off to a fast start, posting 19 tackles in two games.

"I read and react to plays fast," David said. "I play the WIL (weakside) spot, so I can just flow and run and be aggressive. I have good speed (4.53) so that lets me make plays all over the field."

David said he hopes to take a visit to a school or two during the season and then plans to take his final three after the season concludes.

David will be finished with his two-year degree in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
