Pearl River's Ratliff is a playmaker

Pearl River's offensive attack is one of the best in the country and one of the top playmakers for the Wildcats is WR Desmond Ratliff (6-2, 215). was able to speak with the talented wideout recently and he updated us on things including which schools have already let him know they are interested in what he brings to the table...

Ratliff prepped at Canton High School in Mississippi and was unable to get a qualified for a D-1 scholarship so he made the choice to continue his football career at Pearl River.

"The coaches and players here are the best around," Ratliff told "It was still pretty close to home for me and they have one of the top programs in the country every year. It was just the right fit."

As a freshman in 2008, Ratliff managed to lead the Wildcats with 41 and finished second on the team with 506 yards receiving and tied for second with three touchdowns.

His sophomore season is already off to a fast start as, in three games, he's managed to post 25 receptions for 485 yards and four touchdowns.

"They like to move me around, but I have good speed (4.45) and size so they like to get me outside and let me muscle the corners," Ratliff said. "I can play inside or outside, it doesn't matter to me. It's all the same. I just want the ball in my hands and then I feel like I can do almost anything I want with it.

"I don't think I'm cocky. I'm just confident in what I can do and with our offense and Emil (Jones) throwing me the ball, it's been pretty easy for me."

Ratliff said schools have been making contact with him, but he doesn't have any offers that he's aware of.

Schools of interest include - Kansas State, Southern Miss, Tulsa, Oklahoma State, UAB, Kentucky and Auburn among others.

"I'm open to anyone that likes me and what I can do," Ratliff said. "I'll graduate in May so I have time to get it all sorted out. I just want to have the best season I can and then I will see where things end up."

Wherever Ratliff signs, he will have three years to play two once he steps on campus.
