Williams gets a fresh start at El Camino

El Camino LB J'Courtney Williams (6-3, 235) had a tough transition from the east coast to the west coast, but he's fitting in fine now after a solid start to his season with the Warriors. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented linebacker and got the scoop on why he left Virginia as well as what Pac 10 school he's set up an official visit with...

Williams was a standout linebacker in high school and signed with UVA out of high school where he redshirted as a freshman.

"I was there my freshman season and then I had surgery (on an injured shoulder) and things just started to not feel right there," Williams told JCFootball.com recently. "I wanted to get a new start, so I enrolled at Hampton, but I wasn't real happy there.

"Some people I know told me I needed to get back to a D-1 school, so I headed out to El Camino because I heard the best JC football is played out in L.A."

"It's a lot different on the west coast and it's been hard, but things are going well and I'm having fun playing ball now."

Williams enrolled at Elco in January and spent spring ball with the Warriors and impressed the coaches so much they have done what they could to get him on the field.

"I've played outside linebacker, safety and even some stand-up defensive end," Williams said. "I've been having fun just playing ball and it's real competitive here so that's helped with my recruiting."

On the recruiting front, Williams doesn't have an offer to his name yet, but he does have an official visit scheduled to a Pac 10 school.

"I'm visiting Arizona when they play UCLA (10/24)," Williams noted. "They've probably shown me the most interest, but I'm also hearing a lot from Oregon, Tennessee, Oregon State and Miami as well.

"They want to see how my grades are and where I'm at credit-wise. My coaches all say that schools are looking at me and talking to them about me, but no offers have come in yet."

Williams is on pace to finish his AA in December and he'll have two years to play two wherever he ends up.
