Santa Ana's Ruud Amelita paves the way

One of the more physically dominant offensive line prospects in the California JUCO ranks this year is Santa Ana G Ruud Amelita (6-2, 340). He's been flying under-the-radar a bit, but he hopes once schools see his film and transcripts that more attention will come his way. caught up with the talented lineman and he updated us on things...

"I haven't really heard much from any schools since the spring," Amelita acknowledged to "I think a lot of that has to do with me not getting it done in the classroom that quarter, so I've really had to knuckle down and get that taken care of, but it should be all good now.

"I've been working hard on the football field so I think we're sending out some game film and getting my transcripts out and then maybe some schools will start looking at me."

Amelita is a physical presence inside for the Dons, posting a 405 pound bench while possessing the feet and athleticism to get to the second level when pulling on running plays.

"This is just a natural football player in a 345 pound frame," Santa Ana head coach Geoff Jones said during the spring. "He shows up to play every game and he will be a huge impact guy at the next level."

With Amelita's leadership up front, the Dons have managed to put up over 450 yards per game while going 3-2. This weekend they take on Orange Coast College where Amelita gets to see a familiar face line up across from him.

"Me and Justin Niutapuai are friends and we go to church together," Amelita said "I'm looking forward to playing against him.

"I want to smash him," he said with a chuckle.

Amelita said he's still on pace to finish up his AA in May and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up. Ruurd Amelita Scout Profile
