Bateman is a big-play man for Pasadena

He was one of the top wideouts on the west coast as a senior in high school and current Pasadena WR Kemonte Bateman (5-11, 185) has continued to show that same talent for the Lancers. caught up with the big-play receiver recently and he updated us on things including where he plans to head after the season is completed...

Bateman prepped at Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles and he was one of the top wideouts in the nation, garnering offers from schools across the country, but after signing with Arizona State he ran into some difficulties qualifying.

"I greyshirted last year, doing my best to get in there, but it just didn't happen," Bateman told "Basically, after greyshirting and taking classes and stuff, I decided to come here to Pasadena because it felt like it had been so long since I had played ball.

"I'm still planning to go to Arizona State, but I felt like this was the best thing I could do, just to keep myself sharp and get ready for playing D-1 ball."

While he still plans to become a Sun Devil, he did admit that he was willing to at least listen to some schools.

"Not a lot of schools have been after me, but Arizona and Kentucky both have said they like me and what I can do," Bateman said. "So far it's just letters and a phone call here or there, nothing really that big of a deal right now.

"ASU stuck by me and that means a lot to me, but right now I'm focused on what I can do here and what we've got going and then I'll worry about that other stuff later anyway."

So far this season, Bateman has proven his worth, hauling in 20 receptions for 330 yards and four touchdowns.

"I feel like I'm right on the edge of busting out," Bateman said. "I think it's just a matter of time before I hit some big plays, but I've felt pretty good so far. It's all about just working, being consistent and relying on your teammates to do their job too."

Bateman plans to enroll at a D-1 school in January and he'll have four years to play three wherever he ends up.
