CCSF's Walker hauls in first offer

It's been a long time coming for one of the top JUCO safety prospects in the country, but CCSF S Kenronte Walker (6-1, 210) got good news last week when a Big 12 school decided to become the first of what is expected to be many offers for the hard-hitting, versatile defender. caught up with Walker recently and he updated us on things...

"Last week I got offered by Missouri," Walker told "I was actually going to go visit them last weekend because it was our bye week, but they wanted to get me out there when there is a game so I'm not real sure when it will happen.

"It was real exciting though. They said they just like me as a safety. They didn't really say they wanted me at free or strong safety, but I can play either and I think it would be a great situation for me if that's where I went."

Walker can play corner or safety, depending on the situation and play call, but has totaled 11 tackles and six passes defensed 5-0 Rams who are ranked fourth in the country by JC Gridwire.

"I play corner or safety, it just depends on the situation for us defensively or how the offense lines up," Walker said back in June. "I love playing safety, but corner is great too. If the offense comes out in three or four wide, then I can drop down and play the slot or even go out wide.

"The coaches like to move me down into the box a lot when I played safety. That allowed me to blitz or use my size and speed (4.5) to run with receivers or even backs or tight ends."

In addition to Missouri's offer, Southern Miss, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Arizona State, Clemson, South Carolina, Houston, Washington and California have all expressed interest in the talented DB, but none have offered to this point.

Walker is on pace to graduate in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.

This weekend, CCSF takes on defending national champion Butte in a matchup of two of the top programs in northern California.
