Panelli continues to get it done for Modesto

For the second straight season, Modesto QB Greg Panelli (6-3, 230) has put up big numbers while leading the Pirates to a 4-2 record. He's still waiting for that ever-elusive first offer and he hopes one comes in soon so he can plan on where he will continue his college football career...

"I really thought I was going to have a chance to leave over the summer, but things just didn't work out," Panelli told JCFootball.com recently. "I had San Jose State and Cincinnati looking at me and possibly bringing me in to play, but things sorta fell apart because one of them got a local guy and the other one just didn't offer."

As a freshman in 2008, Panelli put up solid numbers, completing 58% of his passes for over 2,200 yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions while leading the Pirates to a 8-3 record. This season he's been even better, posting 1,706 yards while completing 64.5% of his passes for 17 touchdowns and five interceptions.

"We had some guys coming back that I was comfortable with, but we have some new guys on the outside that really have made us explosive," Panelli noted. "I've got a real good comfort level going with those guys and feel very confident in how our offense is coming along."

With recruiting continuing to crawl along, Panelli and his coaches got together and sent out emails to over 80 D-1 and D-1AA schools hoping to find someone who might be interested in what he has to offer.

"I've got film ready for them and just need to know who might be interested in me," Panelli said. "I'm hoping something works out because I really want to keep playing football, but right now I'm just being patient and I'm focused on getting us to the post season."

Panelli was a full-qualifier out of high school and he plans to sign with a program in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
