Snow WR Mazi Ogbonna talks recruiting

Snow WR Mazi Ogbonna (6-1, 190) is having a huge season while torching NJCAA defenses on a weekly basis. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented receiver recently and he updated us on his season as well as which Mountain West school he'll be visiting this weekend...

Ogbonna was a standout prep at Hicksville High School in Westbury, New York and was a full-qualifier, but he was only lightly recruited so he decided to head west to see if he could earn a scholarship offer from a D-1 school.

"My uncle really helped me out with my recruiting and he knew someone out here at Snow," Ogbonna told JCFootball.com. "I just saw it as an opportunity to see some other parts of the country and Snow has a great reputation as a school that puts a lot of players into four-year programs and I thought it was the best situation and it's turned out great for me.'

Besides his good size and receiving skills, Ogbonna is a speedster who can run by people with his 4.32 speed.

"I'm more of a deep threat, but I can run good routes and make plays inside or down the field," Ogbonna said. "This season I worked a lot on my body control and running my routes. I also worked on my speed a lot too."

Last season as a freshman, Ogbonna posted 18 receptions for 324 yards and four touchdowns as he got used to the college game and this season he's leading the team with 32 receptions for 678 yards and eight touchdowns and that productivity has resulted in an offer and plenty of interest from some D-1 programs.

"Wyoming offered me pretty recently and I'm visiting them this weekend," Ogbonna said. "Utah, Utah State and Rutgers have also been recruiting me and calling me so they are interested as well.

"There was part of me that thought about committing, but I talked to my coaches and my family and they said I should be patient and make sure I made the right decision so that's what I'm doing, but I definitely am very high on Wyoming."

Ogbonna is on pace to graduate in December and he'll have two years to play two wherever he ends up.

This week Snow (9-1) has a bye before taking on Arizona Western on November 14th, the only team to beat them this season.
