Two are close to offering PRCC's Ratliff

Pearl River WR Desmond Ratliff (6-2, 215) was one of the top wideouts in the country this year, but he's still waiting on that first offer. caught up with the talented receiver over the weekend and he updated us on things including which two schools are close to offering and what he's going to be focused on over the next few months...

"Troy and South Florida are the closest to offering me," Ratliff told Sunday afternoon. "I talk to both of them every week and USF said they like me a lot, but want to check on my transcripts and they told my coaches they are real close to offering and basically that's what Troy said too.

"I'm getting calls from schools like Kansas State, Southern Miss, Tulsa, Oklahoma State, UAB, Kentucky, Auburn, Memphis and a bunch of other schools, but those two are the ones that are real close to offering."

After a solid freshman season in 2008 that saw him haul in 41 receptions for 506 yards and three touchdowns, Ratliff had a huge 2009 campaign, hauling in 85 receptions for 1,055 yards and 10 scores while helping the Wildcats to a 6-3 record.

"Me and Emil (Jones) had a good combination," Ratliff said. "I just wanted to come out and play well and show what I could do and I did that this year.

"We wanted to win state and then see if we could win a National Championship, but we didn't get that done so it was a little frustrating this year. We had a good season overall, but not as good as I think it could have been."

Now that his football season is completed, the talented athlete will turn his attention toward basketball.

"I play point guard for our basketball team so that's what I'm into now," Ratliff said. "I'm not sure if I will play at the next school I end up at, but that will be something I talk to schools about. Mainly it's about whether the basketball coaches want me to play and than I will think about it. I just love playing both (football and basketball) so I will do it if I can, but my main focus is football."

Ratliff is on pace to finish up his AA degree in May and he'll have three years to play two.
