Joiner talks about his commitment to CSU

Navarro is currently ranked number one in the country in the JC Grid-Wire National Top 25 poll and one of the reasons for their 10-0 record is their outstanding defense and leading the charge for the Bulldogs up front is DE/LB Brandon Joiner (6-3, 240). JCFootball.com caught up with the talented pass-rusher recently and he updated us on things including why he chose to commit to Colorado State...

"Things have been going good for me and for our team," Joiner told JCFootball.com recently. "Our team is playing well and we just beat Kilgore on Saturday and this coming weekend we have Blinn who we beat earlier in the year and that's for the conference championship.

"If we win that then I think we go to the National Championship game which would be great, but right now we're focused on Blinn."

After an amazing freshman season that saw him post 108 tackles, 18 sacks, and 15 tackles-for-loss, Joiner has had a solid, if unspectacular by comparison, sophomore season by posting 36 tackles, eight sacks and four tackles-for-loss in 2009.

"Teams are focused on me a lot," Joiner said. "I just go out and do my job. As long as we're winning, that's all I care about."

Joiner recently made a commitment to Colorado State and gave some reasons why he decided to become a Ram.

"They're a good program and the coaching staff there is new and they are building things up," Joiner said. "I just felt like they were a great opportunity that I couldn't pass up."

Even though he's committed to CSU, Joiner said he made it clear to the coaches he wanted to take some visits to check out some other schools as well.

"After my season I want to visit San Diego State, Utah and Southern Miss," Joiner said. "They've all offered me and I think they all offer different aspects that I need to check out.

"I told the (Colorado State) coaches I wanted to take some visits, but I liked them the most and wanted to go there. They said they were fine with it and that they really want me and need me in their program."

Joiner said he plans to take his visits after his season is complete and then will sign with a school in December with two years to play two once he steps on campus.
