CCSF's Clanton is enjoying the process

Every once in a while, JUCO players will get preseason accolades, but not see their recruiting pick up until their sophomore season is mostly done. That's definitely the case with City College of San Francisco OL Ryan Clanton (6-6, 305) who has seen his recruiting go from tepid to boiling hot in a matter of weeks. caught up with the talented o-lineman and he updated us on things...

"Things have been really hectic with everything," Clanton told earlier this week. "We are in a bowl game so we're getting ready for that, but recruiting has really picked up since I visited Washington and a lot of schools are now after me."

Clanton said he's still planning to visit Oregon next week for their annual rivalry game against Oregon State, but he may visit another school this weekend if things work out.

"Florida State has really started to come on," Clanton said. "I have offers from a bunch of schools now, but I'm not really sure which ones because it's been so hectic. I know that Washington, Oregon and Arizona State have offered, but my coaches have been talking to a lot of schools about me and they said some other ones have come in as well.

"I'm going to try and take a visit this weekend, but I have to work things out with my coaches and stuff so I'm not really sure where I'm going to visit. It will probably be a big-time school though, so I'll just have to sit down and figure that out."

Clanton can play both guard or tackle at the next level, but has mainly been used inside for the Rams.

"I started out at guard, but then (last year) we had a tackle go down and they needed me to move over so I did that I think it went pretty well," Clanton said. "I enjoy playing either one. They're different though, but I feel like I can play both pretty well.

"I've always been a good pass-blocker, but my run-blocking has gotten a lot better so it's something I think I do equally well."

Clanton plans to take all of his visits before he makes his decision so he can sign with a school in December. He'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
