Pierce DT will visit West Virginia next week

Heading into the season, L.A. Pierce DT David Mahoney (6-2, 290) was one of the top JUCO interior defensive line prospects in the nation. He had offers from across the country and visited Tennessee. Now, with the Brahmas in the playoffs he's had to reschedule one visit while continuing to focus on his trip to West Virginia the weekend after Thanksgiving...

"Things have been going great," Mahoney told JCFootball.com recently. "I have already taken my visit to Tennessee and that went great and I was supposed to take a visit to Texas Tech this weekend, but I can't make that one because we have a game so I had to reschedule that one for the first weekend of December.

"I'm visiting West Virginia next weekend (Nov. 27th) and I'm really excited about that one because it's their big rivalry game against Pittsburgh and it should be a great atmosphere."

Besides those three visits, Mahoney said he's also planning to schedule a visit to Arizona State and will end things with a visit to Florida International shortly before signing day in December.

This season Mahoney has been solid posting 35 tackles, eight sacks and 10 tackles-for-loss while playing both the nose and the three-technique defensive tackle spot.

"I've had a good season, but you always feel like you can get better and play better," Mahoney said. "Our goal heading into the season was the make the post season and we're there now so we just want to play as good as we can and see what we can do.

"This weekend we have Mt. San Antonio and they are always a great program so we'll have to play our best game of the season on Saturday."

Mahoney said after he takes all five of his visits he will sit down with his family to make his final decision and sign during the early signing period (which begins December 14th). Wherever he ends up he'll have three years to play two once he steps on campus.
