Clanton says Oregon is the place for him

One of the top JUCO offensive line prospects in the country this year turned out to be City College of San Francisco's Ryan Clanton (6-5, 305) and after taking an official visit to Oregon this past weekend he came away so impressed he decided to commit to them after he got home and talked it over with his family.

"I committed to Oregon today," an excited Clanton told JCFootball.com Monday night. "I took my visit up there this past weekend and it was amazing. The facilities are beyond incredible and the staff has been religiously calling me since the very beginning so they really showed me they wanted me and they needed me.

"I talked to coach (Chip) Kelly when I was there and my dad did too and he said he would honor my request for me to get my degree during a redshirt year if I needed to do that so that was a big thing for me.

"Coach (Steve) Gratewood is an amazing coach and he's been around a long time and produced a lot of great linemen so I know I'll be in good hands when I'm there."

Clanton chose the Ducks over offers from Washington and Arizona State and he was getting heavy interest from Florida State, Auburn, Tennessee and Utah among others.

"I was going to take a visit out to Florida State, but that's off now," Clanton said. "I'll sign with Oregon on December 16th (the first day of the early signing period) and then I'll be there for classes in January.

"I'm just real excited to get it started and can't wait to get there."

Once he arrives in Eugene, Clanton will have three years to play two seasons of football.
