CCSF's Tuala is the man-in-the-middle

As a middle linebacker, City College of San Francisco's Sua Tuala (5-11, 220) was responsible for making all of the calls and adjustments to the defense. This fall he was something special for the Rams as he helped lead them to a 10-2 record and now he's hoping he'll get some attention from some D-1 programs as a full-qualifier with four years to play three now that his season is complete...

Tuala prepped at Sacred Heart in San Francisco and was a good student, but no D-1 programs even gave him a sniff so he headed to City College to see what he could earn for himself.

"I got some D-2 schools that wanted me, but no D-1 schools even showed any interest so I decided to come here," Tuala told recently. "This program is known for producing great talent and moving guys onto big programs so I thought if I came here I'd have a chance to earn some interest."

As a true freshman this fall, Tuala was outstanding posting 78 tackles, one sack and an interception.

"I'm a good run-stopper, but I worked really hard on my pass drops and that's where I think I've improved the most," Tuala said. "I have good instincts in the running game and I feel like I know where the balls going everytime the offense runs it so it's easy for me to get there and make a play or a tackle."

Tuala hasn't gotten much attention so far, but he hopes now that he's sent out his highlight reel that he'll have some schools take a look at him.

"I sent film out to a lot of schools, mostly the Pac 10," Tuala said. "Oregon, Arizona, Cal and a couple of other ones. If I get a scholarship that's great, but if not I'll come back here for another year and then leave after next season."

Because he was a full-qualifier out of high school, Tuala can sign at any time and at this point he'd have four years to play three wherever he ends up.
