Two Big 12 offers for Mt. SAC's Dancy

This weekend, Mt. San Antonio DE Paul Dancy (6-4, 240) and the rest of the Mounties will face off against College of San Mateo for the California State Championship, but after that, his focus will turn to recruiting. Two Big 12 programs have already stepped up with offers and several other D-1 programs have their eyes on him as well...

Dancy prepped at Dorsey High School and was pretty heavily recruited, but he didn't get any offers when he was unable to qualify for a scholarship.

"I wanted to keep playing so I actually went to El Camino last year," Dancy told JCFootball.com recently. "I moved over here to Mt. SAC this summer and I really felt like I fit into the program here and with Bruce Irvin on the other side, it's made things pretty easy on me."

After totaling 13 tackles and 3.5 tackles-for-loss for the Warriors last year, Dancy has started all 13 games for the Mounties and has posted 40 tackles, nine sacks and 17.5 tackles-for-loss so far this season.

"I'm explosive and I can play as a stand-up pass-rusher or put my hand down," Dancy said. "Schools like my speed (4.6) and my strength (16 reps of 225 pounds on the bench), but I think what really helps me is my athleticism because I can pursue sideline-to-sideline so it doesn't matter if the offense runs away from me.

"I played on both sides, it really didn't matter, but I was mainly on the weakside. I use my hands well too, so that helps me keep blockers off me so they can't lock me up."

On the recruiting front, two Big 12 schools have extended offers and he'll visit one on Sunday, after they face CSM in the California State Championship game.

"Right now my focus is San Mateo, but after that I gotta take care of my business," Dancy said. "I'll visit Kansas this weekend, I'll fly out Sunday and then I will probably visit Iowa State after the start of year.

"Kansas lost their head coach (Mark Mangino resigned), but their whole defensive staff is still there and I spoke with coach (Je'Ney) Jackson and he said they still like me and want me to play there even though they are going through some transition."

Besides those two schools, Dancy said he spoke to New Mexico State recently and they intimated they planned to offer him.

"I just talked to them (Tuesday) and they said they want to offer me," Dancy said. "Colorado State and Baylor are both looking to offer and Illinois, San Diego State and Fresno State have all been talking to me a lot."

Dancy will finish is AA degree in May and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
