Four offers on the table for Rivera

He spent his first season of college football up at Oregon, but decided to move on and found a home for himself at College of the Canyons. Now that their season is complete, TE Mychal Rivera (6-4, 240) has turned his focus toward recruiting and finding the right fit for him. JCFootball.com spoke to the talented tight end and he updated us on his offers and some possible visits in January...

"Things just didn't work out with Oregon when I was there," Rivera told JCFootball.com recently. "I just wanted a fresh start and to move on and Canyons was a good fit for me and what I can do."

Rivera had a solid season for Canyons, hauling in 33 receptions for 330 yards and three touchdowns while being used in several different roles.

"They had me at a traditional tight end spot most of the time," Rivera noted. "They also played me at H-Back and some at fullback too.

"I feel I'm pretty versatile because of my size and my speed (4.7) so I think I can do whatever an offense needs me to do."

Recruiting has picked up of late for Rivera with four schools extending offers and a couple of more seemingly close to extending them.

"Kansas State, Syracuse, South Carolina and Utah State are my four offers right now," Rivera noted. "Cal is really recruiting me hard right now and UCLA has made contact and seems pretty interested in me and what I have to offer.

"I'm going to take all my visits in January and then I will decide, but I have some good choices right now. I'm really thankful for that."

Rivera redshirted in 2008 while he was at Oregon so wherever he ends up he'll have three years to play three once he arrives. Because he's a 4-2-4 player, he'll need to get his AA degree which he'll have in the spring.
