Panelli gets a look from a WAC school

Over the past two years, Modesto QB Greg Panelli (6-3, 230) has put up some huge numbers. However, D-1 programs haven't been knocking down his door. Last summer he thought he had a chance to sign and move on, but that didn't happen and now he's got a chance to possibly sign with a WAC school looking for a trigger-man for what was a floundering offense last season...

"Coach (Dwayne) Walker from New Mexico State was here a couple of days ago and he and I got to talk for a little bit," Panelli told "He wants me to come up for a visit this weekend and he said if things go well, I might get an offer."

Panelli had an outstanding freshman season when he completed 58% of his passes for over 2,200 yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions while leading the Pirates to a 8-3 record.

This past season he was even better, completing 60.4% of his passes for over 3,000 yards with 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while leading his team to the Graffiti Bowl where they defeated San Jose Junior College 54-13.

"I had a good year and felt like I improved," Panelli said. "I had a lot of fun and I think we did what we wanted to do most of the time which was great."

Panelli can sign at any time and wherever he ends up he'll have three years to play two once he arrives.

We'll continue to keep tabs on him and see where things go over the next few weeks and we'll update news as it happens.
