Watson "shocks the world" with SJSU commit

One of the up-and-coming JUCO defensive line prospects in the state has been Grossmont DE Ja'Rodd Watson (6-2, 275). With his versatility and athleticism, the talented defender is a player that has skyrocketed up recruiting boards and this weekend he made the decision to commit to a school who only recently came into the picture...

"I committed to San Jose State this weekend," an excited Watson told JCFootball.com. "I think I pretty much shocked the world with that one because a lot of people are like 'you committed to San Jose State?'.

"I think everyone was pretty surprised, but with the coaching staff they have there and they are an up-and-coming program, so I felt like I could really fit in there well and we could grow together."

Watson had been courted by the likes of Illinois, Nevada, Central Florida and Colorado State who had all extended offers while Temple, Miami of Ohio, Arizona and Oregon State had all made overtures as well.

"I just fit in best at San Jose State," Watson said. "They just offered me last Monday and then when I visited this weekend it was just the best fit and so I signed while I was there."

Watson showed his versatility and pass-rushing ability the past two seasons by playing both the right and left defensive end position.

"I played both as a freshman because we had a guy here already (Chad O'Donnell) that was pretty good so I worked in with him," Watson said. "This year I played mainly on the right side and I really enjoyed it a lot because I was so successful."

This season, the talented prospect showed outstanding pass-rushing skills, posting 52 tackles and 13 sacks while earning JC All-American honors.

Watson plans to enroll on January 26th and he will have three years to play two once he arrives.
