Hawaii offer pending for Gaines

This past season, CCSF DE Frank Gaines (6-3, 220) was solid, helping to the lead the Rams to a 10-1 season. This past weekend, the talented defensive end visited Hawaii to check out what the Warriors had to offer and he said he should find out very soon whether he has an offer or not...

Gaines had a solid season for the Rams this fall, posting 52 tackles, nine sacks and forcing two fumbles after totaling 32 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss and four sacks as a freshman in 2008.

Over the weekend, Gaines took a trip to Hawaii to see what they had to offer and he was hosted by a familiar face.

"Darius Bright was my host," Gaines told JCFootball.com. "He and I were teammates this year and he finished up early so he's already enrolled.

"It was really cool. We just spent a lot of time hanging out and I got to meet with the coaches and get a feel for the program."

Gaines is known for his speed off the edge and his relentless pursuit of the quarterback and the Hawaii coaches said they want him to put on some weight if he were to sign with them.

"They haven't offere me yet, but they said they want me around 240 or 245," Gaines said. "It's cool. I'm sure I can put that on. I've never had trouble doing that, but right now I'm around 220 so that was a concern for them."

Gaines left the Islands without and offer, but he hopes to find out something later this week.

"They told me they are going to be evaluating things and will make a decision on whether to offer me or not this week," Gaines said. "I've got a visit scheduled to Portland State this weekend and if I don't have an offer from Hawaii there is a very good chance I could commit to (Portland State) this weekend while I'm up there."

We'll continue to keep track of Gaines' progress as we get closer to signing day on February 3rd. He will graduate in May and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
