Jerideau waits for Baylor decision

He manned the middle of one of the top JUCO defenses in the country this past fall and Fort Scott DT Byron Jerideau (6-1, 320) is getting closer to making a decision where he wants to finish out his college football careeer. caught up with the talented interior defensive lineman and he updated us on things including why he's waiting on Baylor before he decides...

Jerideau was a standout prep in South Carolina, but was unable to qualify for a D-1 scholarship. When his former head coach decided to take a job at Fort Scott, the big lineman decided to follow him to Kansas in order to continue his football career.

"I knew I could do better (in school) and that Fort Scott would get me ready for the next level," Jerideau told "It was different coming here from South Carolina, but it was good because I could just focus on football and school."

After redshirting in 2008, Jerideau rotated inside with three other players and managed to post 71 tackles, 15.5 tackles-for-loss and 3.5 sacks while helping lead the Greyhounds to an 11-1 record and the national semi-finals where they lost to Blinn.

Because of his prototypical size and outstanding strength and speed, Jerideau garned attention from several four-year programs including Western Kentucky, South Texas and Bethune Cookman.

He also got an offer from Eastern Michigan and took a visit there last weekend.

"It was a good visit," Jerideau said. "I really enjoyed myself and thought it would be a great place to go to school and keep playing ball.

"Baylor called me (Monday) and I'm sending them my transcripts and later this week they are supposed to call me and possibly offer me. If they do that, they are going to bring me in for a visit."

Jerideau said if he doesn't get an offer from Baylor that he will likely sign with Eastern Michigan.

Because he redshirted in 2008, Jerideau will have three years to play three with whomever he signs with on Signing Day (February 3rd).

We'll continue to keep track of Jerideau's progress over the next week and will update news as it happens.
