Weston inks with Northern Illinois

In late December, Northwest Mississippi QB Casey Weston (6-3, 205) was still waiting to hear from a D-1 program. His patience paid off and on Wednesday, the talented signal-caller signed his name to a Letter-of-Intent with Northern Illinois and JCFootball.com got the call shortly thereafter to get the story on how things happened so quickly...

"About two or three weeks ago, Northern Illinois called me and we talked for a while about things," Weston told JCFootball.com. "They said their quarterback, Chandler Harnish, was injured and had to undergo some surgery, so they were looking for a good JC quarterback to come in and challenge for playing time and compete right away.

"After they got my transcripts and we talked about things and they saw my tape, they offered me and I committed to them on the phone pretty much right away."

In 2008, as a freshman, Weston threw for 2,072 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions and this season he put up even bigger numbers, completing over 55% of his passes for 2,871 yards, 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while leading the Rangers to a 5-4 record.

"I'm excited to get things started," Weston said. "I'm going to go in there and compete and just have fun playing ball. We'll see what happens."

Weston will have three years to play two once he steps on campus.
