Navarro's Lisika is a defensive playmaker

Navarro's defense promises to be loaded again this fall and one of their top returning playmakers is LB Christo Lisika (6-2, 220), a terror who can make plays from sideline-to-sideline. spoke with the talented defensive prospect recently and he let us know what it is that makes him such a key cog on an outstanding defense...

"I'm just hungry to make a play," Lisika told "I always want to make the play, whether it's coming right at me or whether it's on the opposite side of the field."

As a prep at Trinity High School in Euless, Texas, Christo played mainly offense, but midway through his senior season he was moved to the defensive side of the ball.

"A couple of our guys got hurt on that side and they liked my speed and how athletic I was so they put me over there and told me to rush the quarterback," Lisika said. "I played defensive end mainly and then when I didn't qualify (for a D-1 scholarship), the coaches just moved me to linebacker because of my speed and and my quickness."

As a freshman last fall for the highly-ranked Bulldogs, Lisika rotated in at the strongside linebacker position, posting 30 tackles and three tackles-for-loss.

"I usually play over the tight end so they like to let me cover man-to-man," Lisika said. "This summer I'm just working on my awareness more and breaking down and making plays a little better.

"My speed and my quickness are already good, so it's more about fine-tuning my game and getting better at reading things."

Recruiting has yet to pick up for Lisika, but UNLV has been in contact and his coaches have told him several schools have made inquiries and plan to get a look at him up close this spring.

Lisika will finish up his coursework in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
