Chaffey's Reyes could leave this summer

Chaffey LB Danny Reyes (6-0, 225) is a talented and versatile linebacker who has a chance to be a late signee if everything works out. The talented linebacker prospect was a full-qualifier out of high school and some WAC schools have requested his transcripts in order to see whether he can come in this summer or not…

Reyes enjoyed a solid prep career at Hesperia (Ca.) High School, but because he lived off the beaten path of college football recruiters, he didn't get much in the way of attention.

"I was a full-qualifier, but because of where I lived, not a lot of college coaches came up to see us looking for talent," Reyes told JCFootball.com. "I had heard that Chaffey was a good school and they recruited me, so I gave them a look and liked the coaches and the defense they ran and that was pretty much it."

As a freshman last year playing the strongside linebacker position, Reyes finished third on the Panthers with 48 tackles, 4.5 tackles-for-loss and two sacks.

"I played the strongside this past year, but this year I'm switching to the weakside," Reyes noted. "I feel like I can play pretty much anywhere a team needs me because of my speed and my instincts and my nose of the ball, but I feel pretty comfortable outside so that's where I will probably stay no matter where I go."

Recruiting has been pretty consistent from two WAC schools who are taking a look at his transcripts in the hopes that he can help them this fall.

"Since I was a full-qualifier, I can leave this summer," Reyes said. "New Mexico State and Nevada both are recruiting me with that in mind and I think New Mexico State could be really close to offering.

"It all comes down to how I feel about possibly playing at either one of those schools. If I think I can find something better if I end up staying this fall, then I might do that, but passing up a D-1 opportunity might not be a good decision, so that's sorta what I'm looking at right now."

Should Reyes leave this summer, he will have four years to play three where he ends up in the fall.

We'll continue to keep a close eye on what happens with Reyes' recruiting and we'll update news as it breaks.
