Couch hauls in first two offers

It was only last week that we caught up with Garden City DT Maurice Couch (6-2, 295) and at that point he was still waiting to get his first offer. On Monday, the talented defensive tackle hauled in two offers and, while he said he's excited by both, he isn't ready to make a decision and wants to let the whole process play out...

"I just got offered by Tennessee and Troy," Couch told Monday evening. "Coaches from both schools called me and they both told me they were offering me.

"When they said it was a real relief because I really wanted to get some offers, so it was good, but I didn't think about committing or anything. I want to take my time with things and make sure I see the schools and make the right decision for me."

Couch prepped in Orlando, Florida, but when he was unable to qualify, he decided he needed to get away from the distractions of the Sunshine State and head to the middle of Kansas where he could concentrate on football and school.

Couch redshirted last fall, so this will be his first taste of college football, but he expects to play the three-tech defensive tackle spot in the Broncbusters' defensive line rotation, using his 4.9 speed, 355-pound bench press and 450-pound squat to cause problems for opposing offenses.

"I like playing the three because I can rush the quarterback, which is what I think I do pretty well," Couch told earlier this month. "I can stop the run well, but every lineman wants to get sacks and get pressure on the QB and that's what I do best."

Besides his two offers, Couch said he continues to get interest from the likes of Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Southern Miss, Eastern Michigan, Kansas State, Kansas and Louisiana Tech among others.

Couch is on pace to finish his AA in May of 2011 and he'll have three years to play three wherever he ends up.
