Recruiting heats up for Chaffey's Kelley

Chaffey LB Dallas Kelley (6-0, 227) has had a busy spring. While finishing up his classwork, the talented linebacker also took part in spring football and has been fielding a lot of recruiting interest as well. Because he was a full-qualifier, Kelley can leave this summer and he'll take an official visit to a MAC school in less than two weeks and he could end up visiting a WAC school as well...

"I've been in touch with Kent State for a while and I'm going to be visiting them on (June) 16th and returning on the 18th," Kelley told recently. "I just got my ticket from them and my itinerary, so that's exciting for me to actually have it and to have them really like me that much, it really makes me want to see what they have going on there."

In addition to the increased interest from the Golden Flashes, a WAC school has also extended and offer and an official visit there could also be in the works.

"New Mexico State said they want me this year or next," Kelley said. "They told me they like me a lot and are willing to wait for me and that it's my decision, so that's something I'm thinking about.

"I'd like to get out and see them and what they have to offer as well, but I'm not really sure at this point. It's nice to know that they will wait for me if I decide to come back to Chaffey."

Kelley had a solid freshman campaign in 2009, leading the Panthers with 74 tackles while also notching 3.5 sacks and garnering First Team All-Conference honors.

"I'm a sideline-to-sideline linebacker," Kelley told back in May. "I have good instincts and I can run pretty well. My coaches used me on blitzes and at the MIK (middle) linebacker spot, so I was in the middle of the action all the time."

Besides his outstanding Football I.Q., Kelly also possesses the overall strength and athleticism necessary to be successful, posting a 4.56 forty time, a 4-flat short-shuttle and a 345-pound bench press.

Should Kelley leave this summer he will have three years to play three, however if he plays at Chaffey this fall he will have two years to play two following the season.

We'll keep track of Kelley's progress over the next few weeks and update things as they happen.
